D&G

0

D&G means “Dinner and a Game” a monthly event produced by RAC (Residence Activity Council). First those who signed up are taken to a restaurant (this time it was Chili’s in Kahala Mall). There were a variety of foods to choose from, from the rather massive cobb salad, to quesadillas, to burgers. I personally had a bacon cheese burger.

Others with me had the quesadilla…

…and the massive cobb salad (with chicken).

After dinner we are then taken to watch and cheer for an HPU sporting event. This time is was HPU v. BYUH womens volleyball. I was very impressed with the skill of the players (on both sides).

The game itself was close, at times it looked like BYUH was going to win, other times it looked as if HPU was going to win, all until the final period.

When HPU pulled through and won the game. Much celebration was in order.

I hope I can make it to the next Dinner and a Game.

Numbers Crunching up the Side of Olomana

Last Wednesday I had my first field lab in MARS 2061 (General Oceanography 1), for those of you who don’t know, that lab is on board HPU’s teaching research vessel, R/V Kaholo. This particular lab was a bathymetric survey of a small section of ocean about 5km offshore. Bathymetry being the underwater equivalent of topography or the mapping of the depths of the ocean. For the lab we were in 3 separate teams, each took a turn taking and recording data. My team was the first to record data, after our shift was over, we were free to entertain ourselves while the other teams took their turn. Since I couldn’t just leave the lab (we were in the middle of the Pacific), I just enjoyed the opportunity to be offshore of Oahu while occasionally writing a thought down in my notebook. The there are about 350 data points to work on so I spent almost all day Monday crunching data.

In other news, this past weekend I did a Hike up Olomana, though only to the first peak. It is a rather mild hike compared to Konahuanui but the view was just incredible.

At the top we found a geocache, quite awesome.

In the Halls Again

So I’ve been back in Hawaii for about a week now and the new term has started. This semester I am taking General Oceanography 1, Calc 1, Music 1000, and Geology 1000. I had the weekend before term to get in some recreation.

That’s me in the blue!
Since class has just started, not much has happened in them yet. My first field lab is next Wednesday, I’ll definitely write about what I’m doing there.
I’ve just been busy moving in (I’m staying in the HPU Res Halls again) and getting back into the groove of my academics. On the subject of academics… I had better get back to them.
